So I've been a part of a gaming community that has been around for 2 years. We originally started on a game called Renegade C&C but later expanded into games such as CS:GO, Killing Floor and Minecraft. We have 1,000 registered users on our forums, however only a small percent (5-8%) play on our server, and most of them are different timezones, so we never really hit above 15-20 concurrent players for more than an hour at a time.
